Local attractions

Lying on the eastern rim of Bodmin Moor, North Hill is an ideal touring base for all Cornwall and the South West have to offer, with dozens of attractions to suit all holidaymakers.

The village is 30 minutes' drive from the beautiful north coast ports of Boscastle, Bude (learn to surf with Sandymouth Surf School), Padstow and King Arthur's Tintagel, plus miles of dramatic coastline, sandy beaches and attractive harbours. Looe, Polperro, Mevagissey and Fowey on the south coast are just as convenient to visit and enjoy. Jamaica Inn, made famous by Daphne du Maurier, is in the heart of the moor.

The towns of Launceston and Liskeard are fifteen minutes to the north and south respectively, both with historic town centres, ancient buildings, restaurants, pubs, shopping and other attractions. Launceston with its Norman castle was the original county town; it also has a steam railway. Plymouth is only slightly further away.

Cornwall's premier tourist attractions The Eden Project and The National Marine Aquarium are within easy reach.

Nearby there is a wealth of famous tors and moors, criss-crossed by hundreds of public footpaths and bridleways. Also nearby are Dartmoor National Park, Dozmary Pool, the final resting place of Excalibur, and numerous other lakes and pools offering scenic walks.

Those looking for more strenuous activity will find watersport of all kinds on Roadford Lake, the longest zip wire in the UK near Liskeard, as well as adventure playgrounds and many local outlets for cycle hire.

Horticultural treats include the Lost Gardens of Heligan. Or for historic houses as well as beautiful gardens visit any one of several National Trust properties nearby, notably Cothele on the river Tamar.

There are also many wonderful golf courses in Cornwall, several in easy driving distance, including Jack Nicklaus' St Mellion International and Harry Colt's Trevose course.
